BERGSON Henri [Paris, 1859 - Paris, 1941], philosophe français
Autograph letter signed [to Raphael Cor]. Paris, March 22, 1955; 2 pages in-8°. Nice letter: "I've just read with great interest your article "de la morale bergsonienne à l'immoralisme" [Published in the Mercure de France, 258, #881, p. 225-246], and I want to thank you for having sent it to me with a kind dedication. As your very title indicates, immoralism has nothing in common with the morality that I'm talking about: they are the two antipodes. But I find the relationship between immoralism and the sexual issue interesting. On this last question, I explained myself in the book you are talking about (page 326). You have summed up with elegant precision (but perhaps reducing it to an overly simplistic statement) the distinction that I make, in the moral and religious field, between the static and the dynamic, between the closed and the open. On the other hand, with regard to the afterlife, I see nothing in my explanations that is opposed to "personal survival": on the contrary, it seems to me that I have affirmed as far as it is possible if one sticks to pure philosophy" (ibid.).
